Distinctive Unit Insignia

Description
A silver color metal and enamel device 1 1/4 inches (3.18 cm) in height consisting of a modeled silver color metal fleur-de-lis surmounted by two modeled silver color metal micrometers palewise with frames to base, supported by a red scroll inscribed FIND A WAY in silver color metal letters.

Symbolism
The fleur-de-lis, suggested by the North compass point of medieval European maps, is indicative of a determined direction and implies both planning and directing.  The two micrometers allude to the exactness of the units mission and to the numerical designation.  A single micrometer, representative of the numeral five, refers to five decorations awarded the organization for service during World War II and Korea.

The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 21 June 1968.

Crimson is the color used for Maintenance.  The wavy bend symbolizing water refers to the overseas service of the organization; it also simulates a winding road and as such alludes to mobile operation, the predecessor units mission.  The fleur-de-lis suggested by the north compass point of medieval European maps, denotes a determined direction, and implies both planning and directing.  The exchange principle of the units mission is suggested by the change of color and the exactness of the micrometers.  The two micrometers, simulating the numerals 55 allude to the designation of the unit.  A single micrometer is a numeral five also represents the five decorations awarded the unit for services during World War II and the Korean War.
